Infiltration of Anti-Monarchy Enemies Director’s Comment: Yemen for enemies of the Saudi government, such as Al-Qaeda and other regime-change seekers in Saudi Arabia, is like Swat Valley in Pakistan for the Taliban. Yemen has long and hard-to-manage borders with Saudi Arabia and the Yemenis are not too fond of the Saudis. This is due to historical religious and territorial conflict between the two countries and ill feelings over the mistreatment of millions of Yemeni laborers who have worked and still work in Saudi ...Continue Reading

This is due to King Abdullah’s recent contradictory actions. In mid-February, King Abdullah took advantage of his powerful brothers’ weakened grip on power due to their squabbling over inheritance of the gravely-ill Crown Prince Sultan’ ...Continue Reading

A Determined Saudi Woman Director’s Comment: In a country where obstacles against women’s rights and progress are institutionalized and monumental, Reem Asaad, a professor at Dar Al-Hekmah Women’s College in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, decided to challenge the Saudi labor ministry for failing to implement a Saudi law to employ women in department stores that sell women’s lingerie. As a business professor, Reem understands the importance of money, profits and business reputation. After trying to get the labor m ...Continue Reading

The Wrenching Saga of Maids Director’s Comment: While the Saudis, like the rest of the perturbed and voiceless Arab people, are intensely occupied with the tragic events in Gaza, Israel, Iraq and other parts of the Arab and Muslim world (events that the Arab regimes helped create and have used for decades to deflect their people’s attention from the multitude of self-inflicted and home-grown problems), defenseless maids (mostly Asians, but also Africans and others) serve in Saudi homes under slavery-like ...Continue Reading
